When you hear the name Joey Greco, you immediately think of Cheaters—the long-running reality show that dealt mostly with infidelity. However, Greco’s life has more to it than what appears to the public. You probably didn’t know that he has a degree in psychology, he used to be a fitness instructor, and he currently works as a realtor. What else don’t you know about Joey Greco? Here’s all of it:
Joey Greco: Education and Career Shifts
Joey Greco was born on the 29th of February in 1972. He spent his childhood on Long Island and graduated from a private Pentecostal liberal arts college in Missouri with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology. Later on, he obtained a Master’s degree in counseling from Louisiana Tech University. From then on, Greco’s career was nothing but a compilation of unrelated jobs. He started working as a counselor, but that didn’t last for long.

He switched careers to become a fitness trainer in Dallas, Texas. Shortly after, he decided that fitness wasn’t for him, and he started working in the entertainment industry. The last stop in his career was real estate, where he eventually became a real estate manager. He also revealed in 2011 that at some point in his life, he tended a bar at a seafood restaurant. An interesting career record, don’t you think? It gets better!
Joey Greco’s Career in Entertainment
Joey Greco’s career in entertainment started when he was in the fitness industry. While he was working as a fitness instructor, he landed a job on Fitness Pros, ESPN’s hip-hop fitness show. Shortly after, he landed the job that he’s best known for: the host of Cheaters. He originally joined the show as a replacement for Tommy Habeeb; the rest was history. He hosted the show from 2002 to 2013 before being replaced by Clark Gable III, Clark Gable’s grandson. Those ten years of hosting Cheaters didn’t lack thrilling incidents, though!

Joey Greco’s Alleged Stabbing Incident
In 2003, less than a year after Greco started hosting the show, he was allegedly stabbed on set. The story has it that the cheating boyfriend stabbed Greco once the crew got on his boat. Naturally, the indecent attracted plenty of attention to the show, and Greco’s fame surged. However, mystery surrounded the incident, and there were a lot of allegations that everything was staged as a publicity stunt for the show. In 2009, the female companion of the cheating boyfriend confirmed that the stabbing accident was staged in an interview with Inside Edition.
She said that the boat was rented, the ambulance was rented, and the blood was fake. While Greco appeared to have been stabbed in the stomach, she said that he wasn’t harmed in any way. That’s not it, though. During that episode of the show, the viewers were led to believe that the stabbing boyfriend was arrested by the Rowlett police department. However, according to the police in Rowlett, no crime of this sort was reported during that time.
A few days after these allegations, the investigative reporter of the program reached out to Greco, but expectedly, he didn’t answer his phone. The reporter, called Matt Meagher, caught him on the street while he was walking his dog. Greco refused to comment and didn’t answer any of the questions directed at him, though, which led to even more suspicions regarding the stabbing incident. To this day, no one knows for sure whether the attack was staged.

Joey Greco Charged for Assault
Getting stabbed—though we still don’t know if that’s true—isn’t the only bad thing that happened to Greco while hosting Cheaters. In 2005, the host was indicted on criminal charges related to assault, along with three other crew members. The other members were Hunter Carson, the episode’s director, and two security guards called Walter Earl Woods and Thomas Daniel Gibbons. The charges involved unlawful restraint, bodily injury, and hindering apprehension—naturally classified as Class A misdemeanors.
During that episode, Maria Gutierrez was assaulted by Rafael Gutierrez, and the indictment stated that the crew members were a party to the assault. Allegedly, one of the security guards hit Maria on the leg and tried to restrain her with his own leg. Meanwhile, Greco and Hunter Carson reportedly helped Rafael flee the scene before officers arrived, hence the hindering apprehension charge.
It was also reported that the crew accompanied Rafael to Maria’s workplace, although there was a protective order against him. However, the producer stated that the crew didn’t know anything about the order. Despite the commotion that occurred due to these charges, all four crew members were acquitted on account of the program’s confrontations.

What Is Joey Greco Doing Now?
As you probably already know, Greco left Cheaters in 2012. He returned a couple of times after that for special episodes, but he never returned to hosting the show regularly. Aside from his role in Cheaters, Greco pursued a couple of acting roles in his career. He acted in a pseudo-reality show called Ghostbreakers, which he also produced and wrote. On top of that, he appeared in Charlie: A Toy Story, The Locker, and The House That Drips Blood on Alex. More recently, he appeared on a Netflix parody of Cheaters in 2017, and he’s now reportedly working as a realtor in Dallas, Texas.
